Matthew Richmond's Paper Doll Exhibition: Saving the Planet One Dress at a Time
Guests will be treated to a special showing form the collection of Matthew Richmond, a Michigan artist who creates couture dresses from a variety of recycled materials including VHS tapes, newspaper and plastic bags.
Richmond's idea for creating wearable but unconventional paper and plastic dresses started about seven years ago as a cure for boredom with his mother's mannequin. When he displayed his first paper dress in the Aveda salon in Ann Arbor, people took notice.
Richmond's fashion design has been featured, among many other media outlets, on CNN.com, detroit.cbslocal.com, and Hour Detroit. The artist's History of Fashion collection will soon be introduced at Sommerset Collection mall.
A selection of the dresses and photographs from Richmnd's collection will be on display during the event
