Lois Teicher: Retrospective 1979-2008

Lois Teicher Detroit Sculpture

Lois Teicher's sculptures serve as the connecting link in a visual dialogue about tension and resolution in abstract forms. The way her geometric forms occupy space is significant to the works, as well as the material fabrication. This exhibition will feature 30 sculptures, one from each year, accompanied by models, photographs, and sketches by this living artist.

Lois Teicher is a Michigan artist and educator who has been honored with grants and awards from the Michigan Council for the Arts, Arts Foundation of Michigan, and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York.

Life as a Legend : Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe

This vivid and diverse exhibition of over 300 objects is exclusive to Michigan, Toledo and Northern Indiana. Marilyn Monroe’s rise to stardom is captured through works by more than 65 artists in styles ranging from fashion photography to Pop Art. Artists include Andy Warhol, Allen Jones, Peter Blake, Richard Avedon, Bert Stern, Henri Cartier-Bresson and many others.

Though her life ended far too soon, the world’s fascination with Marilyn Monroe’s magnetic appeal and much publicized private life continues to thrive. There has never been another Marilyn, a unique personification of femininity, naïveté and sexuality. For decades artists have been inspired by Marilyn to create works complementing the instantly recognizable bombshell figure, platinum hair and dazzling smile. Marilyn Monroe personifies glamour and sensuality. This exhibition celebrates the many sides of this 1950’s glamour goddess, immortal legend, and Pop icon.
