Oaxacan Workshop

Visit SAM on Thursday, June 22 from 1-4pm for a FREE class offered through Saginaw Valley State University's Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum. Mario Castellanos Gonzales, one of seven indigineous Oaxacan artists whose work will be on display at Marshall Fredericks from June 23 - September 30, 2017, will be leading the workshop. Specifically, he will be demonstrating and instructing participants on how to create their own carved and painted sculptures (like the one pictured above). At the end of the workshop, students will walk away with a better understanding of Oaxacan art and will take home their own wooden sculpture.

This activity is provided free of charge to ALL AGES. Please note that the number of participants is capped at 10, and that children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. As such, RSVP's are required. To do so, please contact Eric Birkle, Associate Curator of Arts & Education at All art materials will be supplied by the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum.
