Create your own symbols that represent cultural ties to Black History and African Art.
The use of pictorial symbols to represent expressions, ideas and concepts. Symbols are used as a form of communication combining art and language. The word symbol is defined as a mark or sign as means of recognition. A prominent example of this would be hieroglyphs found on temple walls, statues and other monuments in ancient times. Today’s example would be the use of emojis via text. Without using words, create an image that represents you, your family, and your history!
Trel Frazier is a multidisciplinary artist who has over 10 years of experience in art and design. Currently attending the University of Detroit Mercy for Architecture and community development. Trel Frazier has led Art Encounters at the Saginaw Art Museum and Gardens about Elements of Design and The Art of Movement. He hopes to inspire the minds that will change the world by continuing to defy the odds and break down social ecological barriers through design.
