The Saginaw Art Museum will be hosting its 3rd Annual Photography Month. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, we have a lineup of learning opportunities for you. Check out the workshops below and sign up before the spaces fill up.

September 29, 2022 – Touchdown! Learn Sports Photography LIVE!

Location: Nouvel Catholic Central High School, Boyd Football Field (back of school building)
2555 Wieneke Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603.
Time: 5:15pm
Instructors: Mike Kolleth, Kolleth Photography / Kaytie Boomer, MLive
Description: Participants will learn the fundamentals of sports photography by covering a live junior varsity football game with longtime sports photographers, Kaytie Boomer of MLive and freelance photographer, Mike Kolleth. The fundamentals taught in this class are transferable across all sports. This “on-the-job” training course will appeal to advanced beginners and seasoned sports photographers alike. The course is limited to 10 students.
Prerequisites: A DSLR/Mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Ability to adjust camera settings.
Cost: $20

October 8, 2022 – Cyanotypes and Alternative Photo Processing

Time: 10am
Location: Saginaw Art Museum 1126 N. Michigan Ave. Saginaw, MI 48602
Instructor: Danyell Nefe
Description: Learning how to make historical cameraless blue prints. Learn the traditional process with plants and then do experimental prints and learn about what chemical reaction that makes this process work.
What to Bring: Bring their favorite plants, flowers, leaves (the less dense the plants/flowers are the better they work, especially if they are nearing the end of their life)

A cyanotype kit to raffle off at the end of the class!

October 14, 2022 – Photo Walking!

Time: 7:45 AM (yes in the morning!)

Location: Start Location: Downtown Saginaw outside the Temple Theatre 201 N. Michigan Ave. Saginaw, MI 48607
Second Location (after the walk): Saginaw Art Museum 1126 N. Michigan Ave. Saginaw, MI 48602
Instructor: Thor Rasmussen
Description: Taking a walk with your camera lets you slow down and observe space in a new way. Rather than zipping down the street in your car, walking a block gives you the opportunity to pause and compose images you might have missed before. During this photo walk. Participants will meet up in Downtown Saginaw MI and go for a walk before meeting back at the museum to share the images they just took straight out of the camera. It will give you an opportunity to practice not just taking photographs, but thinking about how you talk about your photographs.

October 27, 2022 – The Importance of Photography Workflow
Time: 6:30pm
Location: Saginaw Art Museum
Instructor: Xavier Holmes, XDH Photography
Description: Participants will learn the importance of workflow, how it can improve their work productivity, save them from redundant tasks, and juggle multiple tasks more easily with freelance photographer Xavier Holmes. The fundamentals taught in this class will be from prepping for a shoots, lightroom and photoshop, and doing follow ups with your clientele.
