Spring Break Art Days

March 23, 2024 - March 30, 2024

Join us at the museum for some artmaking, where we have an Art Encounter every day that we are open! You can drop in to an Art Encounter anytime between 1:00 and 4:00 pm. They are free and open for all ages.
* Art Encounters generally take place during our free admission Saturdays, but please note that some Spring Break Art Encounters take place during our Wednesday-Friday hours and require admission for entry. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and ages 15 and under and members are free. If a student is an Arts for All member, they AND their family will be able to enter the museum free of cost. Are you a student that is served by the Saginaw Intermediate School District? You can sign up for Arts for All when you arrive! *
PAPER ANIMATION WITH KYRA BOOTH – MARCH 23
Join College of Creative Studies animation student, Kyra Booth, and learn the basics of traditional paper animation! You’ll be able t do a couple of small tests, such as a ball bouncing and a character walking. Then you’ll learn how to turn your paper animations into videos you can share!
LEGO PRINTING WITH KATIE MIELENS – MARCH 27
Did you know you can use Lego for something other than building? Let Katie teach you how to make prints out of your own Lego designs!

Katie earned her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University in Art, Art History, and Museum Studies and is now the Education and Museum Services Manager at Saginaw Art Museum. She has worked as a K-12 teaching artist and educator at various schools, museums, and arts nonprofits around the country and world. These include Tacoma Art Museum in Washington, Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Discovery World in Milwaukee, A.C.L.E camps in Italy, and ArtistYear in rural North Carolina.

ORIGAMI WITH MARK DEWOLF-OTT – MARCH 28
Learn the Japanese art of origami by making a paper sculpture without tape, glue, staples, OR scissors! Mark will show you how to fold an elephant and a crane candy dish suitable to put candy in.
Mark has been sharing his origami experience in the Saginaw area for over 40 years. He was born in Saginaw and is a self-taught folder. He has given talks and demonstrations at schools, libraries, churches, civic groups, OLLI, the Children’s Zoo, Saginaw Children’s Museum, the Japanese Cultural Center and Tea House of Saginaw, and at several National Origami Conventions.
CROCHETING FOR BEGINNERS – MARCH 29
Have you ever wanted to learn how to crochet? Now is the time! Learn the basics and maybe even leave with a small project. Are you already an experienced crocheter? Come share your skills and make with us! We have plenty of yarn for you to use.
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN WITH TREL FRAZIER – MARCH 30
Learn about color, form, line, shape, space texture and value. These are some of the key elements to great design. This encounter will help with brand development, marketing and your personal design process. Trel will teach you how to create your own personal logo design based on your name, hobbies, and more!
Trel has over 10 years of experience in art and design. He’s been creating as long as he can remember and was heavily influenced by his uncle who lived in New Jersey. He believes design allows you to be expressive and is very therapeutic.
