September 14, 2018 - December 15, 2018

Fortifications and Portals: The Romanesque in Europe examines the architectural, military, and religious significance of Romanesque Churches in Europe through the 19th century photographic lens.  This exhibition explores the origins of the Romanesque style and how design transformed and influenced the way people understood places of worship.  The show features work from European photographers: Francis Bedford, Francis Frith, James Valentine, and George Washington-Wilson.
